Tucson is becoming a growing center for integrative medicine where conventional and alternative health practitioners can interface and work together. Our own Dr. Andrew Weil is one of the pioneers of this movement with his Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine. The program educates doctors in the applications of natural medicine in addressing the whole individual in mind, body and spirit. The goal of integrative medicine is to educate, heal and transform the world one person at a time. It serves to empower and create an opening where patient and practitioner are partners in the healing process.
One such clinic that is committed to this integrative model is Southwest Integrative Healthcare that opened its doors to the community in January of 2008. This multi-disciplinary group includes Evan Kligman, M.D., family medicine and geriatrics; Amelia Lo NP; June Stevens, NMD, Naturopathic Physician; Karen Autrey, RN, Wellness Coach and Integral Yoga Instructor; Linda Joy Stone, OMD, L.Ac., Licensed Acupuncturist and practitioner of Chinese Medicine; John Chabin, MA, LCC, M.Div, and Ann Baldwin PhD, Cardiovascular Biofeedback Practitioner and Energy Healing. The clinic offers heart-centered medicine and support with a focus on healthy aging and wholeness. Believing that education and awareness are essential to growth, they offer skills to help their patients/clients live full and healthy lives. The practitioners assemble once a month to check in with each other, share cases and support the integrative vision.
